The Magnitude of a Moment

Life is full of the ever-presence of moments. Every blink of an eye, every breath, every action and then it passes. On to the next.

Some moments we cling to; we replay them over and over again in our minds. Others are forgotten, outcasted, and thrown aside. Others we cherish, and long for, wishing we could live in that moment one last time.

It is after a moment has passed that it is fully appreciated. Lost in the act of living, we are otherwise occupied. The moments move along, and we follow with them, as new ones cultivate our futures.

We carry also the weight of the memory, within the weight of the moments. This link and chain we drag with us, that intertwines itself throughout the thread of our very lives.

Retrospect is both a gift and a curse, a pleasure and a pain. In some ways we learn and acknowledge a mistake or learn a lesson. In others, we appreciate the beauty and the happiness we've experienced or shared. Sometimes we look back so as to look forward. Perhaps it is in hope for the future. Perhaps it is to recollect the joys we've experienced, or to remember a feeling of fondness contained within a memory.

We have the moments of earth-shattering pain, that stay with us longer than we wish to carry them for. We have the moments of undescribable joy, that fill our hearts with peace and contentment.

We have the moments of hope, the hope that overshadows past pain, and the moments of triumph that follow an overcoming of struggle.

Moments carry a unique magnitude, not only due to their fleeting nature, but because we don't truly live in them in their uniqueness.

To be fully present in life, in the moments you get, the ones you may only get once, is a gift we rarely appreciate until the opportunity for it is gone. This constraint of time and its limitations truly remind us of how unintentional we really are.

You can never get back time that is spent, or moments that you missed or lacked presence in. You will never know how many opportunities or moments you'll be blessed to have.

Moments have magnitude. Rather than throwing away the weight of them in ignorance, perhaps carry them with true intention and care. Realize the value they carry and live in that value.

A life lived without moments, good or bad, is hardly a life at all.
